On November 1, 2017, New York City became the ninth jurisdiction in the United States to pass a law limiting wage reporting and verification of salary history. This type of legislation,currently pending in at least twenty-one other states, aims to address pay equity. States and cities hope that, by banning the request of salary history during the hiring process, they can break the cycle of wage discrimination.
