Personality Assessment Testing in the Workplace

Personality Assessment Testing in the Workplace Since 1999, the number of Fortune 500 companies that use personality assessment testing in their hiring process has increased from 25% to nearly 40%, according to Career-Intelligence, an online career resource. This upward trend can be contributed to several factors, including the growing number of employers frustrated by the high costs of employee turnaround and the availability of affordable, easy-to-interpret testing products.

"This is the next major trend in hiring practice," says Sara Wells, director of Sara Wells Associates, an executive search firm specializing in marketing and communications professionals in Asia. "There is so much competition for good people and staff retention, companies have to be careful to get the best possible fit, and these tests are one way to ensure that they do."

Companies of all sizes — from Fortune 500 to "mom and pop" small businesses — each use assessment tests to help determine which jobs will be a good fit for which people, how well they will perform, and how happy they will be in the position. In addition, these tests can help reveal the applicant's propensity towards workplace dishonesty, substance abuse, and other work-related values that may interfere with their success.
