Half of U.S. Workers Face Workplace Violence

Forty-seven million American workers experience psychological or physical aggression while on the job, a new national survey finds.

The survey, conducted by McMaster University, reveals that more than 40 million American workers reported being the victims of psychological aggression, including being screamed at, insulted or threatened with physical violence. Roughly six percent of survey respondents said that they've been the victim of on-the-job physical violence - enduring slaps, kicks or attacks with a weapon while on the clock. Of those who suffered physical violence, 96 percent also experienced some form of psychological abuse.

While there was a large gap between the types of aggression experienced, this wasn't the case when it came to sources of workplace violence. Nearly twenty-five percent said they were victims of violence from customers, clients, patients or other members of the general public. Twenty-eight percent of workers said they had experienced psychological or physical aggression at the hands of a co-worker, boss or supervisor.

Recognizing workplace violence as a growing national concern, InfoMart is pleased to offer a full suite of background screening and assessment services designed to help make your workplace more secure. For more information, please contact sales@infomart-usa.com or 770-984-2727 option 4.
