On April 26, InfoMart volunteers joined 600 volunteers from 19 companies at 15 locations throughout Metro Atlanta as part of Earth Share of Georgia's annual Corporate Green Day Challenge.
The InfoMart team rolled up their sleeves and pulled on their work boots and garden gloves to help in planting, weeding and building projects at Oakhurst Community Garden in Decatur, Georgia. In addition to being a valuable community green space, The Oakhurst Community Garden teaches environmental awareness to diverse local students through hands-on gardening and outdoor education programs, and seeks to cultivate the next generation of environmental stewards.
In addition to participating in the Corporate Green Day Challenge, InfoMart was a Green Sponsor for Earth Share's other Earth Day activities, the Earth Day Leadership Breakfast and Party in the Park. InfoMart's sponsorship contributed to the over $125,000 Earth Share raised to help continue their mission of providing critical funds for 60 leading environmental member organizations.
"InfoMart has always tried to incorporate sustainable business practices into our company, but this year our employees have been encouraging us to go green like never before," said Tammy Cohen, InfoMart's president and chair. "We are excited to have the opportunity to share in the success of an organization such as Earth Share of Georgia."
On Earth Day, InfoMart employees also signed a company-wide Contract with the Earth, pledging to reduce, reuse and recycle in the office and beyond. Commitments in the pledge include "recycle ink and toner cartridges," "print pages double-sided when possible" and "travel only when necessary - utilize web-based training and conference calls to save energy."
