Verify Employment Gaps
Life would certainly be a lot easier if your applicant had a perfect career history on his/her resume, but frequently job candidates have noticable gaps in their previous employment. Employment Gaps are those periods of time between jobs when job seekers are unemployed, either by choice or circumstances.
Employment Gaps should not be taken lightly and could tell you quite a bit about your applicant's past. Some of the most common reasons for having years unaccounted for on a resume many include taking time off to have a baby and/or raise a family, going back to school for higher education or technical training, enrollment in the military, recovering from a traumatic accident or illness, caring for an elderly parent or sick child for an extended period of time, residence in a rehabilitation facility, or incarceration.
InfoMart now offers a new Employment Gap Verification service. InfoMart will verify an applicant's periods of unemployment upon completion of the Previous Employment Verification portion of the applicant profile. The client will determine time frames that require verification. If an applicant is determined to have experienced a period of unemployment, InfoMart will request the name and contact information of a reference that can confirm the applicant's reason for unemployment.
This Employment Gap information could be helpful in making a hiring decision. Perhaps your applicant was going to school to increase their knowledge in a particular field. However, in a worse case scenario, the applicant could be trying to hide incarceration. Either way you would have the unemployment period verified and could be more comfortable about hiring a potential employee.
