InfoMart Discovers Why Chickens Can't Fly
As part of an ongoing partnership with Brumby Elementary School in Marietta, Georgia, InfoMart recently sent several employees to judge the school's submissions for the Georgia PTA's Reflections arts recognition program. An annual contest that is judged on local, state and national PTA levels, this year's Reflections topic was "I Wonder Why…"
Overwhelmed by the artistic and literary talent of the entries, the InfoMart team members finally picked their winner - a thoughtful and creative essay that explores one fifth-grader's thoughts on why chickens can't fly. Here is an excerpt:
"I wonder why chickens can't fly. I think they can't fly because they're fat and heavy so their wings can't carry them… I wish they could fly to protect themselves from predators. They are birds. They are supposed to fly. If only some day in the future they could have liposuction so they could fly away."
In addition to judging the Reflections contest, InfoMart has participated in numerous activities with the students and teachers of Brumby Elementary throughout the year, including reading to classes as part of Read All Day, an environmental cleanup and education project, a Drug Awareness Week door-decorating contest and speaking to classes about what InfoMart does and how inappropriate actions when you are young can impact your entire future.
At InfoMart, we believe strongly in supporting our local schools, and have a long tradition of doing so. To further that tradition, we have renewed our partnership with Brumby Elementary and have recently become Partners in Education with another area school, Eastside Elementary.
